The Energy Access Investment Forum 2026 is the leading annual investment event for the renewable electrification sector, dedicated to fostering partnerships between businesses and investors to accelerate sustainable electricity access. Organised by the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and supported by GET.Invest, the event plays a key role in mobilising finance for renewable energy solutions that drive economic growth, decarbonisation, and climate resilience.

As a strategic partner at EAIF 2026, SNV will highlight how scaling proven solutions and improving financing approaches can unlock investment in renewable energy, powering economic growth and inclusive development.

From access to scale

In energy access, the challenge is no longer proving what works, but scaling the solutions that already exist. This means strengthening how funding instruments—particularly grant funding and results-based financing (RBF)—are deployed to de-risk commercial investment and support market-based delivery.

Integrated approaches that link energy, agriculture, and water are central to this, driving productivity, increasing incomes, and building more resilient value chains.

Making finance work better

While grant funding and RBF have played an important role in advancing electricity access, challenges remain. Developers and financiers continue to face complexity, fragmentation, inefficiency and risks for market distortion.

At EAIF, the focus will be on improving the effectiveness and alignment of existing instruments to unlock investment, accelerate delivery, and support country-led pathways to universal access.

From practice to scale

Experience from programmes such as BRILHO and GeraSol in Mozambique, and KOSAP and EnDev in Kenya, shows what is possible. These initiatives demonstrate how targeted financial incentives and technical support can unlock markets—while also highlighting the need for more efficient, predictable, and coordinated approaches.

SNV at the event

During the forum, SNV will contribute to or lead the following sessions.

High-level panel

Maximising the impact of grant funding for electricity access in Africa

Tuesday, 21 April 2026 | 11:15 – 12:30 | EAT

This high-level panel takes a strategic look at how grant funding—and in particular results-based financing (RBF)—has been deployed over the past decade to advance electricity access in Africa. It reflects on progress achieved to date, highlights persistent challenges faced by developers and financiers, and explores how existing instruments can be further optimised to accelerate delivery of SDG 7 through market-based approaches. Workshop III

Reaching underserved communities through off-grid solar solutions

Wednesday, 22 April 2026 | 11:15 – 12:30 | EAT

Using the KOSAP project as an example, this session explores approaches to expanding off-grid solar access in underserved and hard-to-reach communities. It highlights key strategies, including the development of mini-grids and the installation of solar power in public facilities.

The session also examines mechanisms for private sector participation—particularly through results-based financing—and shares lessons learnt and best practices for scaling access.

Workshop IV

Results-based financing deep-dive: capturing learnings to inform future RBF design and implementation

Wednesday, 22 April 2026 | 14:30 – 18:00 | EAT

This invite-only session brings together over a decade of experience in results-based financing (RBF) design and implementation. Drawing on flagship programmes—including BRILHO in Mozambique, KOSAP in Kenya, and BGFA in Zambia—it explores key lessons learned in advancing market-based delivery.

Following case study presentations, participants will engage in group discussions to examine challenges in RBF design and implementation. The session aims to contribute to shared learning and improved coordination, supporting the development of more effective and standardised RBF approaches. For more information, visit here.
